Crafting a compelling pitch for playlist editors on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music is essential for artists aiming to amplify their reach. Here’s a concise guide to help you navigate the pitching process on both platforms.
Spotify Playlist Pitching
Accessing the Pitch Tool:
Log in to Spotify for Artists.
Navigate to the Home tab and select PITCH FROM NEXT RELEASE.
Alternatively, under the Music tab, find your upcoming release and choose the track to pitch.
Pitching Guidelines:
Submit your pitch at least 7 days before the release date to ensure editorial consideration and inclusion in your followers’ Release Radar.
Only one song can be pitched at a time.
Provide detailed information: genre, mood, instrumentation, culture, and a compelling description.
Note: Compilations or tracks where you’re a featured artist aren’t eligible for pitching.
Post-Pitch Insights:
If selected, you’ll receive an email notification.
Even if not chosen, your song may still gain traction through algorithmic playlists and user engagement.
Apple Music Pitching
Accessing the Pitch Tool:
Sign in to iTunes Connect.
Click on Apple Music Pitch.
Creating a Pitch:
Select Create Pitch and choose the appropriate category: New Release, Pre-Add/Pre-Order, or Re-promotion.
Search your catalog using Apple ID or UPC, or enter details manually.
Provide comprehensive information: Spatial Audio, Motion Artwork, Lyrics, mood, genre, and promotional plans.
Specify the territories for your pitch.
Pitching Deadlines:
For full editorial consideration, submit your pitch at least 10 days before the release.
The final deadline for late adds is 7 days prior to release.
Best Practices for Both Platforms
Timely Submission: Early pitches increase the likelihood of editorial inclusion.
Detailed Information: The more context you provide, the better editors can understand and place your music.
Engage Your Audience: Promote your music across platforms to boost streams and visibility.
Stay Updated: Regularly check your artist dashboards for insights and feedback.
By adhering to these guidelines and leveraging the tools provided by Spotify and Apple Music, you can enhance your music’s visibility and connect with a broader audience.
